i’m completely gone for the ‘pew pew pew’ cats.

today is one of those days when i clearly just can’t win. i was going to write an entry about the girl behind the register who just looked at me the whole time, smiling and nodding. i know she could hear me because she was able to copy down my drink order. the rest she just … turned off for? how going for coffee makes me feel like i’m talking to myself.
but then i got to work and got an email from a chick who i’d apparently deeply offended by asking her to whip up some eggs and make eggnog with me at the party last weekend.
one of the reasons i didn’t write much about the winter warming party is that it was pretty frustrating experience for me. that the original plan called for a group of us to have a walk around the lake in the middle of town before going to the party at around 2ish. by 1, i still hadn’t heard from any of the people i was supposed to meet up with for all this (who live together). so i called them and was told they were running behind, we’d obviously have to skip the lake, and they’d leave the house by 2 and would call then so i’d know when to pick them all up at the bart station.
at 3, i called again; they were leaving soon.
when they finally made it to the station and i picked them all up and drove them all to the party, stopping at the grocery store for the last of the ingredients for the nog, i apparently pissed one of them off by asking her to grab the eggs which i forgot while i stood in line. then deeply offended the same girl by asking her to beat the egg whites when we were at the party.
she said yes, then disappeared.
then today she sent me an email saying i didn’t need to like her but i had to stop being so disrespectful.
er?
this past weekend was chock full of holiday parties. i’m not sure, but i think everyone had the same idea to have their celebration earlier in the month to avoid overbooking.
saturday night i went to the home of one of my co-workers. he and his wife live in a nice place down by precita park. i thought about milling ’round the neighbourhood after i left to say hi to everyone else i know who lives down there, but thought twice… it was cold. brrrr.
instead i drove down the peninsula to the annual geekhaus white elephant party. i thought about making mine a real white elephant gift in the form of my friend’s cat who needs a new home, but wasn’t really sure how that would go over.
instead i brought the beer hammer, which went over very well and will make an appearance up at the ranch next season. and i got to snorgle mr. pants a bit before his parents took him home. such a sweet boy, that one!
just as one group took off and i was thinking it might be time to start the trek back up to the north, out came “rock band”. what fun! i’d heard of it but hadn’t seen it yet. we played for a couple hours at least. i sang, and even got 100% on bon jovi’s “dead or alive” — admittedly on the easy setting but it was the only score quite that high all night. i rocked along with the radio the whole drive home. (which reminded me of driving home from houston when i lived in college. i’d sing the last hour or so very loudly to avoid getting over tired.)
i even stared to consider buying a game console so i could play more! probably won’t ever really happen, but it is tempting.
sunday was a winter warming party which featured my first attempt at home made egg nog. oh, why didn’t i take a photo? it came out pretty well, thought the egg whites (at my encouragement) were whipped just a few seconds too long. now i know what soft peaks really are, though. see… learning, that’s what it’s all about.
