this past weekend was chock full of holiday parties. i’m not sure, but i think everyone had the same idea to have their celebration earlier in the month to avoid overbooking.

saturday night i went to the home of one of my co-workers. he and his wife live in a nice place down by precita park. i thought about milling ’round the neighbourhood after i left to say hi to everyone else i know who lives down there, but thought twice… it was cold. brrrr.

instead i drove down the peninsula to the annual geekhaus white elephant party. i thought about making mine a real white elephant gift  in the form of my friend’s cat who needs a new home, but wasn’t really sure how that would go over.

instead i brought the beer hammer, which went over very well and will make an appearance up at the ranch next season. and i got to snorgle mr. pants a bit before his parents took him home. such a sweet boy, that one!

just as one group took off and i was thinking it might be time to start the trek back up to the north, out came “rock band”. what fun! i’d heard of it but hadn’t seen it yet. we played for a couple hours at least. i sang, and even got 100% on bon jovi’s “dead or alive” — admittedly on the easy setting but it was the only score quite that high all night. i rocked along with the radio the whole drive home. (which reminded me of driving home from houston when i lived in college. i’d sing the last hour or so very loudly to avoid getting over tired.)

i even stared to consider buying a game console so i could play more! probably won’t ever really happen, but it is tempting.

sunday was a winter warming party which featured my first attempt at home made egg nog. oh, why didn’t i take a photo? it came out pretty well, thought the egg whites (at my encouragement) were whipped just a few seconds too long. now i know what soft peaks really are, though. see… learning, that’s what it’s all about.
